It's been awhile since I've posted so I thought I better try to catch up! There's been a lot going on around our household. Keri's involved in Upwards basketball and practices once a week, Katie's playing basketball at the Sports Center and practices two times a week, Trey plays basketball on Mondays and Thursday and is now in the process of moving out, Don has been working late, I'm working full time......WOW.
It's no wonder that I really enjoy my late nights, when I can just be all by myself without any noise but the tv! I have to say that I sometimes feel like a bad Mom because I just want to be left alone. I'm sure that all parents out there feel this way from time to time but in hind sight I always feel bad for my tone of voice or my actions toward my family when they catch me in one of these moods.
Most nights I feel bombarded when I walk through the door. I get out of work late, I've picked up one of the kids from practice, I'm expected to make a meal right away, there's laundry that needs done, folded and/or put away. It's very overwhelming! Can't I just sit down and be left alone? As I write all this out I just had a thought. Did Jesus feel this way? Everyone wanted to be close to him, to see him, touch him, be healed by him. Did he ever feel like us? Did he ever want to just be alone?
If you're reading my blog and you are familiar with passages in the Bible that will help me with what I'm dealing with, please leave me a comment and tell me where to read about handling these pressures. I'm serious! Some days I think I'm on the verge of depression or getting an ulcer. I don't sleep well at night because I feel like there's too much "stuff" that is left undone. I have prayed about all this but it doesn't seem to get any easier! I think I need scripture. Something to fall back on when I'm feeling on the brink of insanity!

You ready? Here's some of my favorites...
Matthew 6:27-34:"Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes."
And sometimes Jesus wanted to be alone, too...I think we all need that time sometimes...nothing wrong with it at all:
Matthew 14:22-23: "As soon as the meal was finished, he insisted that the disciples get in the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he dismissed the people. With the crowd dispersed, he climbed the mountain so he could be by himself and pray. He stayed there alone, late into the night."
Finally, I want to encouarage you with these two verses...
Matthew 11:28-30 - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Isaiah 40:30-31 - "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Hope that helps a little bit...and I'll be praying for you.
I'll leave the Scripture to Rob, but I just wanted to let you know that I know what you mean. I don't work full-time like you (I am in awe of how you can do it all), but by the end of the day, I want to be left alone too. You are not a bad mom, you are a good mom because you are worried about being a bad mom! Moms and wives need downtime too. You hang in there and know that when it is 9:00 pm, you are not the only mom who is excited to have the kids in bed and be left alone. Btw, the late nights of husbands working are no fun. Curt has been working to 6:00 or 6:30 for years, not counting the hours he spends each evening at the kitchen table working on prints. I am hoping his new position at work will relieve him of some of that craziness. I hope Don doesn't get overwhelmed at work!
